In 1971, Link Wray, the rock pioneer known for his instrumental "Rumble," made a bold artistic shift with his self-titled album. Recorded in a converted chicken shack studio, "Wray's Shack Three Track" in Accokeek, Maryland, this album marked a departure from his earlier works. Abandoning saturated instrumentals, Wray delved into a more rootsy sound, blending blues, country, gospel, and folk rock. The minimalist production, utilizing rudimentary means like boxes of nails for percussion, gives the album a raw authenticity. Although the album didn't achieve immediate commercial success, it is now recognized as a major work in American rock, influencing artists such as The Neville Brothers and Calexico.
