Formé en 1969 à New Haven, Connecticut, Jasper Wrath est un groupe de rock progressif américain fondé par Jeff Cannata (batterie, chant), Michael Soldan (claviers), Robert Gianotti (guitare) et Phil Stone (basse). Leur unique album éponyme, sorti en 1971 sur le label Sunflower (filiale de MGM), est un joyau méconnu du prog-rock américain.Enregistré en six semaines au studio A&R de Phil Ramone à New York, l'album mêle rock symphonique, psychédélisme et folk baroque, avec des arrangements complexes et des harmonies vocales soignées.
Malgré des critiques positives, le départ soudain de Gianotti avant une tournée nationale a conduit à une pause du groupe.Cannata et Soldan ont alors voyagé en Europe, notamment à Londres et Majorque, où ils ont composé de nouveaux morceaux influencés par la scène progressive britannique. De retour aux États-Unis, le groupe s'est reformé avec de nouveaux membres, dont James Christian (chant, guitare) et Scott Zito (guitare), mais n'a pas sorti de nouvel album studio avant sa dissolution en 1976.

Formed in 1969 in New Haven, Connecticut, Jasper Wrath was an American progressive rock band founded by Jeff Cannata (drums, vocals), Michael Soldan (keyboards), Robert Gianotti (guitar), and Phil Stone (bass). Their sole self-titled album, released in 1971 on the Sunflower label (a subsidiary of MGM), is a hidden gem of American prog-rock.Recorded in six weeks at Phil Ramone's A&R Studio in New York, the album blends symphonic rock, psychedelia, and baroque folk, featuring complex arrangements and refined vocal harmonies.
Despite positive reviews, Gianotti's sudden departure before a planned national tour led to the band's hiatus. Cannata and Soldan traveled to Europe, notably London and Majorca, where they composed new material influenced by the British progressive scene. Upon returning to the U.S., the band reformed with new members, including James Christian (vocals, guitar) and Scott Zito (guitar), but did not release another studio album before disbanding in 1976.
