Formed in London in 1970, Rock Workshop was a short-lived British collective co-founded by guitarist Ray Russell and Scottish singer Alex Harvey. The thirteen-member ensemble, drawn from the UK's jazz scene, blended rock, jazz, blues, and soul into an experimental and energetic style. Their sole self-titled album, released in 1970 on CBS, is noted for its daring compositions that merge jazz improvisation with rock structures. Although the band had a brief existence, its influence endures in British jazz-rock circles.
