Formé en 1972 à Greenville, en Caroline du Nord, Heartwood était un groupe de country rock américain composé de sept musiciens. Initialement connu sous le nom de "The Band from Clayroot", le groupe a adopté le nom Heartwood lors de l'enregistrement de son premier album. Leur musique mêlait des influences de rock sudiste et de country rock, avec des harmonies vocales riches et des instruments tels que le dobro, la pedal steel guitar et l'harmonica.

Leur troisième et dernier album, Nothin' Fancy, est sorti en 1975 sous le label GRC. Produit par Paul Hornsby, connu pour son travail avec The Marshall Tucker Band et Charlie Daniels, l'album présente une fusion de rock, de country et de folk. Malgré des performances énergiques et des compositions solides, le groupe s'est dissous en août 1975 en raison de l'épuisement lié aux tournées constantes et à la disparition soudaine de leur maison de disques.

Formed in 1972 in Greenville, North Carolina, Heartwood was a seven-piece American country rock band. Originally known as "The Band from Clayroot," they adopted the name Heartwood during the recording of their debut album. Their music blended southern rock and country rock influences, featuring rich vocal harmonies and instruments like the dobro, pedal steel guitar, and harmonica.

Their third and final album, Nothin' Fancy, was released in 1975 on the GRC label. Produced by Paul Hornsby, known for his work with The Marshall Tucker Band and Charlie Daniels, the album showcases a fusion of rock, country, and folk.Despite energetic performances and solid compositions, the band disbanded in August 1975 due to the exhaustion from constant touring and the sudden demise of their record label.
