Formé en 1969 à New York, Dust est un groupe de hard rock pionnier, souvent considéré comme l'un des premiers à incarner le heavy metal américain. Le trio se compose de Richie Wise (guitare, chant), Kenny Aaronson (basse) et Marc Bell (batterie), ce dernier devenant plus tard connu sous le nom de Marky Ramone des Ramones. Le groupe est produit par Kenny Kerner, qui coécrit également les paroles.

Leur premier album éponyme, Dust, est publié en janvier 1971 sur le label Kama Sutra Records. Cet album présente un mélange de hard rock, de blues et de psychédélisme, avec des morceaux comme "Stone Woman", "Love Me Hard" et le morceau épique de 10 minutes "From a Dry Camel" . Bien que l'album n'ait pas rencontré un grand succès commercial à sa sortie, il est aujourd'hui reconnu comme un précurseur du heavy metal américain.

After the release of their second album, Hard Attack, in 1972, the band disbanded due to lack of promotion and Wise's growing interest in music production . The members went on to successful careers: Wise became a producer, notably for Kiss's first albums; Aaronson collaborated with artists such as Joan Jett, Bob Dylan, and Billy Idol; and Bell joined the Ramones in 1978, adopting the name Marky Ramone
