Formé en 1973 à Warner Robins, en Géorgie, Stillwater est un groupe de rock sudiste qui a marqué la scène musicale des années 1970. Le groupe est composé de Mike Causey (guitare), Bobby Golden (guitare, chant), Jimmy Hall (chant, percussions), Sebie Lacey (batterie, chant), Al Scarborough (basse, chant), Bob Spearman (claviers, chant) et Rob Roy Walker (guitare, chant).

Leur premier album éponyme, sorti en 1977 sur le label Capricorn Records, mêle rock sudiste, blues et influences folk.L'album inclut le single "Mind Bender", qui atteint la 46e place du Billboard Hot 100 en février 1978. Le groupe se produit aux côtés d'artistes tels que l'Atlanta Rhythm Section et le Charlie Daniels Band, consolidant ainsi sa réputation sur la scène musicale du Sud des États-Unis.

En 1978, Stillwater publie son deuxième album, I Reserve the Right!, avant que le label Capricorn ne ferme ses portes en 1979. Le groupe se sépare peu après, mais se reforme en 1996 avec le batteur David Heck et sort l'album Runnin' Free en 1998.

Formed in 1973 in Warner Robins, Georgia, Stillwater was a Southern rock band that made its mark on the 1970s music scene. The band consisted of Mike Causey (guitar), Bobby Golden (guitar, vocals), Jimmy Hall (vocals, percussion), Sebie Lacey (drums, vocals), Al Scarborough (bass, vocals), Bob Spearman (keyboards, vocals), and Rob Roy Walker (guitar, vocals).

Their self-titled debut album, released in 1977 on Capricorn Records, blends Southern rock, blues, and folk influences.The album features the single "Mind Bender," which reached No. 46 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1978. The band performed alongside artists such as the Atlanta Rhythm Section and the Charlie Daniels Band, solidifying their reputation on the Southern U.S. music scene.

In 1978, Stillwater released their second album, I Reserve the Right!, before the Capricorn label folded in 1979. The band disbanded shortly thereafter but reformed in 1996 with drummer David Heck and released the album Runnin' Free in 1998.
