Skylight était un groupe australien formé en 1972 par Geoff Skewes (claviers) et Trevor Courtney (batterie), tous deux anciens membres du groupe soul The Vibrants. La formation comprenait également Greg Cook (guitare), Mike Clarke (basse), Sunil De Silva (percussions) et Bonnie Lever (chant). Leur style musical fusionnait rock, soul et funk avec des arrangements sophistiqués et des influences groove marquées.

En 1974, le groupe sort son unique album, Skyhigh, sur le label EMI. L’album inclut des titres tels que "Skyhigh", "Get It Happening", et une reprise notable de "The Ghetto" de Donny Hathaway, illustrant la richesse de leurs influences musicales.

Malgré une prestation très remarquée lors de l’ouverture du festival Sunbury en janvier 1974 et la sortie du single "Skyhigh" en juin de la même année, le groupe ne parvient pas à atteindre un succès commercial durable. Un second single, "Too Many People", paraît en octobre 1974 sans plus d’impact. Skylight se dissout au début de l’année 1975.

Le groupe est également marqué par des tragédies : la chanteuse Bonnie Lever décède dans un accident de voiture en 1978 à seulement 23 ans, et Geoff Skewes s’éteint en 2019.

Skylight was an Australian band formed in 1972 by keyboardist Geoff Skewes and drummer Trevor Courtney, both former members of the soul group The Vibrants. The lineup also included Greg Cook (guitar), Mike Clarke (bass), Sunil De Silva (percussion), and vocalist Bonnie Lever. Their music blended rock, soul, and funk, featuring sophisticated arrangements and a strong groove influence.

In 1974, the band released their only album, Skyhigh, on the EMI label. The album featured tracks such as "Skyhigh", "Get It Happening", and a notable cover of Donny Hathaway’s "The Ghetto", showcasing their stylistic diversity.

Despite a highly praised performance opening the Sunbury Festival in January 1974 and the release of the single "Skyhigh" in June of that year, the band failed to achieve commercial success. A second single, "Too Many People", was released in October 1974 but had little impact. Skylight disbanded in early 1975.

The band’s history is tinged with tragedy: vocalist Bonnie Lever died in a car accident in 1978 at just 23 years old, and Geoff Skewes passed away in 2019.
