Hedgehog Pie was a British folk rock band from the northeast of England, active primarily between 1971 and 1978. The band went through several lineup changes over the years, but notable members included Mick Doonan (flute), Jed Grimes (guitar), Martin Jenkins (violin, mandolin), Stu Luckley (guitar, bass), Margi Luckley (vocals), and Alan Dixon (drums).
In 1975, Hedgehog Pie released their second album, The Green Lady, under the Rubber Records label. This album marked a significant evolution for the band, incorporating elements of jazz and hard rock into their traditional folk base. Notable tracks on the album include "The Burning of Auchendoon," a traditional song, and original compositions like "Daemon Merchant" by Mick Doonan and "Dreamer" by Martin Jenkins.
The album was well received by critics, reinforcing the band's reputation as live performers. They shared the stage with artists such as Richard Thompson, Mike Harding, and John Martyn. Despite these critical successes, Hedgehog Pie did not achieve major commercial recognition, leading to their breakup in 1978.
