The Serfs était un groupe de rock américain formé à Lawrence, Kansas, à la fin des années 1960. Composé de musiciens issus de différents horizons musicaux, le groupe était un mélange éclectique de soul, jazz, R&B et rock. Leur seul album, The Early Bird Café, sorti en 1969 sous le label Capitol Records, se distingue par des reprises audacieuses de classiques tels que "Like A Rolling Stone" de Bob Dylan, "I'm A Man" du Spencer Davis Group et "All Blues" de Miles Davis.
L'album a été enregistré en 1968, dans le même studio que Electric Ladyland de Jimi Hendrix, avec la participation de Mike Finnigan, qui a également joué sur l'album de Hendrix. The Serfs were an American rock band from Lawrence, Kansas, active in the late 1960s. Composed of musicians from diverse musical backgrounds, the group was an eclectic mix of soul, jazz, R&B, and rock. Their only album, The Early Bird Café, released in 1969 on Capitol Records, stands out with bold covers of classics like "Like A Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan, "I'm A Man" by the Spencer Davis Group, and "All Blues" by Miles Davis.
The album was recorded in 1968 at the same studio as Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland, with Mike Finnigan also contributing to Hendrix's sessions. Despite their remarkable performances and an innovative approach to music, The Serfs never achieved the commercial success they deserved. After the album's release, the band quickly disbanded. Nevertheless, The Early Bird Café is now considered a significant work in the late 1960s American music scene, a fascinating blend of styles and influences.
