Freedom est un groupe de rock psychédélique britannique formé en 1967 par Bobby Harrison et Ray Royer, anciens membres de Procol Harum. Après leur départ de Procol Harum, ils ont formé Freedom avec Steve Shirley et Tony Marsh, qui a rapidement été remplacé par Mike Lease. Le groupe a d'abord enregistré la bande originale du film italien Nerosubianco (également connu sous le nom de Black on White), avant de se tourner vers un son plus hard rock avec leur deuxième album éponyme, Freedom, sorti en 1970.

Cet album marque une évolution vers un style plus énergique et orienté vers le blues rock, avec des influences de la côte ouest des États-Unis. Le trio composé de Bobby Harrison (batterie, chant), Roger Saunders (guitare, chant) et Walt Monaghan (basse, chant) a mis l'accent sur les harmonies vocales et un son plus puissant, tout en conservant des éléments de leur style psychédélique antérieur.

Freedom a été enregistré après une tournée aux États-Unis, où le groupe a soutenu des groupes tels que Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath et Curved Air. L'album reflète cette expérience avec des morceaux tels que "In Search of Something" et "Dusty Track", qui montrent une maîtrise accrue de la composition et de l'interprétation.

Malgré la qualité de leur musique, Freedom s'est dissous en 1972. Bobby Harrison a ensuite formé le groupe Snafu.

Freedom was a British psychedelic rock band formed in 1967 by Bobby Harrison and Ray Royer, former members of Procol Harum. After leaving Procol Harum, they formed Freedom with Steve Shirley and Tony Marsh, who was soon replaced by Mike Lease. The band first recorded the soundtrack for the Italian film Nerosubianco (also known as Black on White), before moving towards a harder rock sound with their second self-titled album, Freedom, released in 1970.

This album marked a shift towards a more energetic, blues-rock-oriented style, with influences from the West Coast of the United States. The trio, consisting of Bobby Harrison (drums, vocals), Roger Saunders (guitar, vocals), and Walt Monaghan (bass, vocals), focused on vocal harmonies and a more powerful sound, while still retaining elements of their earlier psychedelic style.

Freedom was recorded after a U.S. tour, where the band supported acts like Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, and Curved Air.The album reflects this experience with tracks such as "In Search of Something" and "Dusty Track," showcasing an increased mastery of composition and performance.

Despite the quality of their music, Freedom disbanded in 1972. Bobby Harrison went on to form the band Snafu.
