Mark "Moogy" Klingman, né le 7 septembre 1950 à New York et décédé le 15 novembre 2011, était un musicien, auteur-compositeur et producteur américain reconnu pour sa créativité et son éclectisme. Il est surtout connu comme membre fondateur du groupe Utopia, dirigé par Todd Rundgren, avec lequel il a profondément marqué le rock progressif des années 1970.

En 1972, il publie son premier album solo, simplement intitulé Moogy, sous le label Capitol Records. L’album offre une fusion raffinée de rock et de pop, portée par son jeu expressif au piano et sa voix chaleureuse. Le disque est salué pour sa richesse musicale et ses arrangements inventifs, avec des textes introspectifs imprimés sur la pochette intérieure.

Au-delà de sa carrière solo, Klingman était un musicien de studio très demandé. Il a collaboré avec des artistes aussi variés que Bette Midler, Johnny Winter, Rick Derringer, et bien sûr Todd Rundgren, pour qui il a joué sur l’album emblématique Something/Anything?.

Atteint d’un cancer, Moogy Klingman s’éteint en novembre 2011, laissant un héritage discret mais essentiel dans l’histoire du rock américain.

Mark "Moogy" Klingman, born September 7, 1950, in New York City and passed away on November 15, 2011, was an American musician, songwriter, and producer, best known as a founding member of Todd Rundgren’s Utopia and for his collaborations with several major artists.

In 1972, Klingman released his debut solo album, Moogy, on Capitol Records. Blending elements of rock and pop, the album showcases his expressive piano playing and emotive vocals. The inner sleeve of the LP contains the lyrics and full liner notes, reflecting the album’s personal tone and musical ambition.

Klingman was also an in-demand session musician who worked with Bette Midler, Johnny Winter, Rick Derringer, and contributed to Todd Rundgren’s seminal solo album Something/Anything?.

He continued to record and perform for decades, remaining active in the New York music scene. Klingman passed away in 2011 after a battle with cancer, leaving behind a lasting musical legacy.
