Tom Snow, né en 1947 à Princeton, New Jersey, est un auteur-compositeur-interprète américain dont la carrière s’étend sur plusieurs décennies. Bien qu’il soit surtout reconnu pour ses succès en tant que songwriter dans les années 1980 et 1990 (avec des titres interprétés par Barbra Streisand, Ray Charles, Olivia Newton-John ou Selena), son parcours commence bien plus tôt, marqué par une solide formation musicale au Berklee College of Music à Boston, qu’il intègre en 1965.

Après avoir obtenu son diplôme en composition, il s’oriente vers la chanson pop et s’installe en Californie en 1969. Il fonde le groupe Country avec Michael Fondiler, Steve Fondiler, Bobby De Simone et Ian Espinoza, qui sort un unique album éponyme en 1971. L’année suivante, Tom Snow enregistre son premier album solo, Uptown Hopeful, produit par Peter Asher. Cet album, resté inédit jusqu’en 2016, révèle une belle maturité artistique avec des titres finement arrangés entre folk-pop californienne et soft rock.

On y retrouve la crème des musiciens de studio de l’époque : Danny Kortchmar (guitare), Russ Kunkel (batterie), Red Rhodes (pedal steel), Wilton Felder (basse) et Michael Brecker (saxophone). Les chansons comme Pioneer, I'm a Shadow ou Five Minute Spell témoignent d’un sens mélodique affirmé et d’une sensibilité marquée.

Après cet essai non publié, Snow signe avec Capitol Records et sort deux albums supplémentaires, Taking It All In Stride(1975) et Tom Snow (1976), avant de se consacrer pleinement à l’écriture pour d’autres. Il recevra plus tard 15 prix BMI Millionaire Awards pour des chansons ayant dépassé le million de diffusions radio.

Tom Snow, born in 1947 in Princeton, New Jersey, is an American singer-songwriter best known for his extensive success as a pop songwriter from the 1970s through the 1990s. Though famous for writing hits for Barbra Streisand, Selena, Ray Charles, and Little Feat, his roots lie in jazz and composition, which he studied at Berklee College of Music starting in 1965.

After graduating, Snow moved to California in 1969 and co-founded the band Country, which released one self-titled album in 1971. In 1972, he recorded his debut solo album, Uptown Hopeful, produced by Peter Asher. The album remained unreleased for over four decades, finally seeing the light in 2016 through Slipstream Records.

Featuring top-tier session musicians like Danny Kortchmar, Russ Kunkel, Red Rhodes, Wilton Felder, and Michael Brecker, the album is a refined blend of folk-pop and soft rock, highlighted by tracks such as Pioneer, Five Minute Spell, and I'm a Shadow.

Following this period, Snow released two more albums on Capitol (Taking It All In Stride in 1975 and Tom Snow in 1976), before dedicating himself to writing for others. He went on to receive 15 BMI Millionaire Awards for songs with over one million radio plays, cementing his place in pop music history.
