Six ans après leur premier album éponyme sorti en 1970 chez RCA, le groupe Fat revient en 1976 avec Footloose, un second opus autoproduit sur leur propre label, Dream Merchant. Six years after their self-titled debut album released in 1970 on RCA, Fat returned in 1976 with Footloose, a self-produced second album on their own label, Dream Merchant. Hailing from Springfield, Massachusetts, Fat initially gained recognition for their blend of psychedelic rock, blues, and folk. With Footloose, the band explores new sounds, incorporating elements of southern rock, funk, and jazz, reflecting the musical evolution of the mid-70s.
Despite mixed reviews, the album offers varied compositions, ranging from the boogie blues of "Down Home Girl" to the jazz-funk influences of "Bistro City". Peter Newland's distinctive voice and the meticulous arrangements showcase the band's artistic maturity.
