Morgen est un obscur mais marquant groupe de rock psychédélique américain originaire de Long Island, New York. Fondé par le chanteur et guitariste Steve Morgen, le groupe n’a sorti qu’un seul album éponyme en 1969, devenu culte avec le temps. Dans la veine des premiers Blue Cheer ou Iron Butterfly, l’album Morgen combine fuzz sursaturé, riffs lourds et une ambiance hallucinée, portée par une énergie brute et des textes ésotériques.
Malgré son faible écho commercial à l’époque, Morgen est aujourd’hui considéré comme une perle du heavy psyché, un condensé de ce que la scène underground américaine pouvait offrir de plus intense et électrique à la fin des années 60. L’album s’ouvre avec le puissant « Welcome to the Void », souvent cité comme l’un des sommets du genre. Morgen was a short-lived but influential American psychedelic rock band from Long Island, New York, led by singer and guitarist Steve Morgen. They released only one self-titled album in 1969, which has since become a cult classic. In the spirit of early Blue Cheer or Iron Butterfly, Morgen delivers fuzz-drenched guitar, heavy riffing, and a trippy, occult-tinged atmosphere.
Although it received little commercial attention at the time, Morgen is now hailed as a psychedelic masterpiece and a landmark of late-60s underground rock. The album opens with the iconic “Welcome to the Void,” a heavy psych anthem.
