Avant Tapestry et la reconnaissance planétaire, Carole King expérimente la pop californienne aux accents folk et soul dans ce trio éphémère formé avec Charles Larkey (basse) et Danny Kortchmar (guitare). Produit par Lou Adler, Now That Everything’s Been Said pose les fondations du son Laurel Canyon. Les chansons, toutes signées King (parfois avec Gerry Goffin), révèlent déjà son talent mélodique et émotionnel. Bien que l’album ait été un échec commercial à sa sortie, il est aujourd’hui considéré comme une pièce maîtresse préfigurant l’âge d’or du singer-songwriter des années 70.

Before achieving solo stardom, Carole King formed The City with Charles Larkey and Danny Kortchmar. Their sole album, Now That Everything’s Been Said (1968), produced by Lou Adler, quietly pioneered the mellow, intimate sound of Laurel Canyon. Though overlooked at the time, it features early versions of future classics and showcases King’s unmistakable songwriting voice, both musically and lyrically. It’s a hidden cornerstone in the evolution of the West Coast singer-songwriter movement.
