Released in October 1985, Dog Eat Dog saw Joni Mitchell fully embrace the synthetic sounds of the mid-1980s. Co-produced with Thomas Dolby and Larry Klein, the album is a bold departure into electro-pop, with heavy use of synthesizers, drum machines, and sampling. Lyrically, it is Mitchell at her most political and confrontational, addressing consumerism, televangelism, and environmental decay. Though its digital sheen alienated some long-time fans, the record stands as a stark, daring artifact of its time, highlighting Mitchell’s refusal to remain artistically static.
