Originaire de l’Iowa (d’abord sous le nom The Prophets), le groupe migrera à San Francisco en 1968 après une signature auprès de Mercury Records. Avec des influences blues-rock psychédélique agrémentées de cuivres et d’arrangements jazz, Linn County se fait remarquer localement, partageant la scène avec des pointures comme Albert King, Sly & the Family Stone ou Ten Years After.

En 1969, ils publient leur deuxième album, Fever Shot, un disque alliant hard groovy, jams planantes et solos d’orgue. Le titre-titre devient un incontournable dans les radios FM underground, notamment sur Beaker Street. Malgré son excellente réception critique, l’album reste injustement confidentiel. Le groupe sortira ensuite un troisième album en 1970 avant de se dissoudre .

After starting in Iowa as The Prophets, the band relocated to San Francisco upon signing with Mercury in 1968. Their sound married blues-based heavy rock with psychedelic tones, jazz-inflected arrangements, and horn flourishes, catching the attention of peers like Albert King and Sly & the Family Stone.

In 1969, they released their sophomore album, Fever Shot, characterized by groovy hard rock, organ-led jams, and distinctive horn textures. The title track became an underground FM staple, particularly on shows like Beaker Street. Though critically praised, the album remained obscure. They issued one more album in 1970 before disbanding .
