Après la dissolution d’H. P. Lovecraft, Michael Tegza et quelques anciens membres forment un nouveau groupe sous le nom raccourci de Lovecraft, recrutant Jim Donlinger (guitare), Michael Been (basse/chant) et Marty Grebb (claviers/chant).

En 1970, ils enregistrent Valley of the Moon à Wally Heider Studios pour Reprise. L’album marque un virage stylistique : on abandonne l’ambiance psyché obscure pour un rock plus accessible, aux accents folk, soft rock et harmonies riches, rappelant Crosby, Stills & Nash ou Uriah Heep. Malgré cette orientation plus grand public, l’album n’est pas promu et échoue commercialement, menant à la dissolution du groupe.

Following the breakup of H. P. Lovecraft, members regrouped to form Lovecraft, adding Jim Donlinger, Michael Been, and Marty Grebb. Their 1970 album Valley of the Moon, recorded at Wally Heider Studios and released on Reprise, veers away from the eerie psychedelia of their past. Instead, it embraces folk-rock, melodic harmonies, and soft-rock elements reminiscent of Crosby, Stills & Nash or Uriah Heep. Although musically richer and polished, the album failed commercially and the group disbanded soon after.
