Formé en Caroline du Nord au début des années 1970, Arrogance est un groupe pionnier de la scène indie américaine. Porté par le talent d’écriture de Don Dixon, qui deviendra plus tard un producteur influent (R.E.M., The Smithereens), le groupe se démarque par une fusion rafraîchissante de rock sudiste, folk rock, et power pop. Leur deuxième album, Give Us a Break!, autoproduit en 1973, respire l’authenticité et la vitalité d’un groupe de scène, avec des chansons accrocheuses, des harmonies vocales limpides et une instrumentation organique. Album confidentiel mais salué par la critique locale, il témoigne de la capacité du groupe à conjuguer ambition et spontanéité, dans la veine de Big Star ou The Byrds période Clarence White.

Hailing from North Carolina, Arrogance was one of the earliest self-sufficient indie rock bands in the U.S. Formed in the early '70s and led by singer-songwriter Don Dixon, who would later gain recognition as a producer, the band carved out a sound blending Southern rock, folk-pop, and proto-power pop. Their 1973 LP Give Us a Break! is a vibrant, homegrown record full of melodic songwriting, jangly guitars, tight vocal harmonies, and youthful energy. Though released independently and largely under the radar, the album captures the raw charm of a band destined for cult status, evoking the spirit of Big Star, The Raspberries, and early Eagles.
