The Viola Crayola was a Texas-based jazz-rock fusion trio featuring brothers Anthony Viola (guitar) and Ron Viola(drums), and Bill Jolly on bass. Their sole LP, Music: Breathing of Statues, recorded in New York and released in 1974 on the obscure Fautna label, is a striking blend of prog-psychedelia and fusion, reminiscent of Frank Zappa colliding with Mahavishnu Orchestra

Anthony's virtuosic guitar navigates complex time signatures and rich harmonics, delivering an instrumental power trio sound that is both intricate and forceful. His untimely death in an auto-train accident shortly after the album's release cut their momentum tragically short.
