Johnny Pate est un compositeur, arrangeur et chef d’orchestre américain réputé pour ses contributions majeures au jazz, à la soul et au funk. Actif dès les années 1950, il se fait remarquer par ses collaborations avec Curtis Mayfield et The Impressions, avant de se tourner vers les musiques de films. Bien que souvent associé à l’univers de la Blaxploitation, il n’a pas signé la B.O. originale de Shaft (œuvre d’Isaac Hayes), mais a composé des musiques pour d'autres thrillers urbains des années 1970, notamment The Big Score ou Brother on the Run. Johnny Pate is a renowned American composer, arranger, and conductor known for his influential work in jazz, soul, and funk. Active since the 1950s, he collaborated with Curtis Mayfield and The Impressions before turning to film scoring. Although Isaac Hayes composed the original Shaft soundtrack, Pate contributed to other Blaxploitation films like The Big Score and Brother on the Run.
