Trespass, deuxième album studio de Genesis sorti le 23 octobre 1970 chez Charisma, marque un tournant : le groupe passe d'une pop psychédélique légère à un rock progressif teinté de folk, marquant la naissance de ce que l'on appellera bientôt le "son Genesis" . Le disque, produit par John Anthony (à Trident Studios, Londres), concrétise des mois de tournée intensive et de répétitions résidentielles, durant lesquelles ils ont façonné un style plus cohésif et mature .
Le groupe confirme son orientation vers le rock symphonique à travers des longueurs explorées (morceaux entre 6 et 9 minutes), des ambiances pastorales et des ruptures de tempo caractéristiques du prog . La sortie de l’album précède le départ d’Anthony Phillips (anxiété scénique) et l’arrivée future de Phil Collins, annonçant la transition vers la formation qui connaîtra plus tard la gloire .

Trespass, Genesis's second album released on 23 October 1970 by Charisma, marked their bold move from light pop psychedelia towards folk-infused progressive rock that would become the classic “Genesis sound” . Produced by John Anthony and recorded at Trident Studios in London, the album emerged after heavy touring and creative retreats, resulting in a tighter and more mature band identity .
With tracks ranging from pastoral acoustic passages to heavy, dramatic climaxes and varied tempos, Trespass firmly planted its flag in the prog-rock territory . It also marks the last album with guitarist Anthony Phillips and introduces drummer John Mayhew, a brief member before Phil Collins’ era .
