Projet expérimental monté par trois membres du groupe Paul Revere & The Raiders (Drake Levin, Phil Volk et Mike Smith), Friendsound livre avec Joyride une œuvre audacieuse, totalement hors normes pour 1969. Cet album unique mêle rock psychédélique, bruitisme avant-gardiste, collages sonores, improvisations free et atmosphères hallucinées. On y croise des flûtes délirantes, des cris d’enfants, des sons trafiqués et une liberté de ton rare. Friendsound was an experimental offshoot of Paul Revere & The Raiders, featuring members Drake Levin, Phil Volk, and Mike Smith. Their only album, Joyride (1969), is a bold foray into psychedelic noise, avant-garde sound collage, and freeform improvisation. The record defies traditional song structures, layering bizarre effects, eerie flutes, dissonant guitars, and childlike vocals into a surreal sonic journey. More an acid-drenched sound experiment than a rock record, Joyride is a cult favorite among fans of far-out psych.
