Les J.B.'s sont le mythique backing band de James Brown, créé en 1970 sous la direction du tromboniste Fred Wesley. Véritable machine à groove, le groupe développe un funk brut, syncopé, instrumental et hypnotique, qui deviendra la signature sonore de la période la plus influente de Brown. Leur premier album, Food for Thought, sorti en 1972, regroupe plusieurs singles explosifs du groupe : c’est une œuvre fondatrice du funk instrumental, pleine de cuivres percutants, de riffs de guitare tranchants, et de lignes de basse ravageuses.
