Originaire de New York, The Group Image est un collectif psychédélique issu de la scène de l'East Village actif à la fin des années 1960. Sorti en 1968 sur Community Records, leur seul album A Mouth in the Clouds les a vus représenter la culture américaine aux Jeux olympiques de Mexico tout en attirant l’attention de Time magazine. Leur son puise directement chez Jefferson Airplane, mêlé à des harmonies folk façon Mamas & the Papas, voire des passages jazzy et électroniques inattendus. La chanteuse Sheila Darla, souvent comparée à Grace Slick, incarne une énergie scénique proche du proto-punk L’album, bien que passé inaperçu commercialement, est réévalué aujourd'hui comme un classique du psyché acide new-yorkais .

Hailing from New York's East Village, The Group Image was a one-off psychedelic collective that released its sole album, A Mouth in the Clouds, in 1968 on Community Records. The band was notable enough to be featured in Time magazine and chosen to represent American culture at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Their sound heavily channels Jefferson Airplane-style psychedelia mixed with folk harmonies reminiscent of the Mamas & the Papas, along with occasional jazzy and electronic elements. Lead singer Sheila Darla’s stage presence hinted at proto-punk fervor. Though they didn’t chart, the album is now regarded as a cult classic of underground acid psych.
