Known as the "Philosopher of Soul," Johnnie Taylor was a key figure in Southern soul and rhythm and blues. After a gospel debut with the Highway QCs and a stint with the Soul Stirrers, he launched a successful solo career on Stax Records. Released in 1968, Who's Making Love became his breakthrough album, driven by the hit title track, a soul-funk classic addressing infidelity with wit and groove. The album showcases Taylor's vocal power and lyrical bite, confirming his place among the greats of 60s–70s soul music.
