Don Julian, chanteur, compositeur et producteur américain, est surtout connu comme leader du groupe vocal doo-wop The Larks dans les années 1950 et 60. Dans les années 1970, il s’oriente vers la soul et le funk, et compose la bande originale du film Blaxploitation Shorty the Pimp. Bien que le film reste obscur et peu diffusé, la bande-son, enregistrée autour de 1973, est un bijou méconnu de la soul psychédélique. Sorti officiellement en 1998, l’album combine groove sensuel, riffs funky, dialogues intercalés et ambiance urbaine, dans la plus pure tradition de la Blaxploitation.

Don Julian was an American singer, songwriter, and producer best known as the frontman of the doo-wop group The Larks. In the 1970s, he shifted toward soul and funk, composing the soundtrack for the Blaxploitation film Shorty the Pimp. Though the film never saw wide release, its 1973 soundtrack became a hidden gem of psychedelic soul and gritty funk. Officially released in 1998, the album features streetwise grooves, wah-wah guitars, heavy basslines, and narrative interludes, standing as a cult classic of the genre.
