Farquahr était un groupe de folk originaire de Branford, Connecticut, actif à la fin des années 1960 et au début des années 1970. Composé des frères Bobby, Dennis et Frank McGowan, ainsi que de Doug Lapham, le groupe était connu pour ses noms de scène inspirés d'animaux : Hummingbird (Bobby), Condor (Dennis), Flamingo (Frank) et Barnswallow (Doug).

Avant de se renommer Farquahr, ils étaient appelés The McGowan Brothers et se produisaient principalement dans la région de la Nouvelle-Angleterre. En 1968, ils publient leur premier album, Fabulous Farquahr, sous le label Verve Forecast. Cet album reflétait leur style folk humoristique, avec des morceaux tels que "Sister Theresa's East River Orphanage" et "My Island".

En 1970, le groupe signe avec Elektra Records et publie un album éponyme, Farquahr, produit par Jerry Ragovoy. Cet album atteint la 195ᵉ place du Billboard 200 en décembre 1970. Parmi les morceaux marquants figurent "Hanging on By a Thread", "My Island", et "Streets of Montreal".

Farquahr was a folk band from Branford, Connecticut, active in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The group consisted of brothers Bobby, Dennis, and Frank McGowan, along with Doug Lapham. Each member used a stage name inspired by animals: Hummingbird (Bobby), Condor (Dennis), Flamingo (Frank), and Barnswallow (Doug).

Before adopting the name Farquahr, they were known as The McGowan Brothers and performed mainly in the New England area. In 1968, they released their first album, Fabulous Farquahr, under the Verve Forecast label. This album reflected their humorous folk style, with tracks like "Sister Theresa's East River Orphanage" and "My Island".

In 1970, the band signed with Elektra Records and released their self-titled album, Farquahr, produced by Jerry Ragovoy. This album reached number 195 on the Billboard 200 in December 1970. Notable tracks include "Hanging on By a Thread", "My Island", and "Streets of Montreal".

The band stood out for their energetic performances and unique blend of folk and humor. After their breakup, the members pursued various musical careers. However, Farquahr remains a significant testament to their contribution to the 1970s folk scene.
