Ace était un groupe de rock britannique formé en 1972 à Sheffield, composé initialement de Paul Carrack (claviers, chant), Alan "Bam" King (guitare rythmique, chant), Terry "Tex" Comer (basse), Phil Harris (guitare solo, chant) et Steve Witherington (batterie), remplacé par Fran Byrne en 1974. Le groupe s’est rapidement imposé sur la scène musicale grâce à son mélange habile de rock, soul et pop, marqué par des harmonies vocales soignées et des lignes mélodiques entraînantes.

En 1977, Ace sort son troisième et dernier album, No Strings, sous le label Anchor Records. Plus orienté vers des sonorités funk et pop-rock, cet album reflète l’évolution du groupe vers une musique plus accessible, mais également plus commerciale. Malgré des compositions solides et des arrangements bien produits, l'album ne rencontre pas le succès espéré. Cette déception commerciale mène à la dissolution du groupe la même année, en juillet 1977. Paul Carrack poursuivra ensuite une carrière brillante, notamment au sein de Squeeze, Mike + The Mechanics, et en solo.

Ace was a British rock band formed in Sheffield in 1972, originally featuring Paul Carrack (keyboards, vocals), Alan "Bam" King (rhythm guitar, vocals), Terry "Tex" Comer (bass), Phil Harris (lead guitar, vocals), and Steve Witherington (drums), who was replaced by Fran Byrne in 1974. The band quickly gained attention for its blend of rock, pop, and soul, characterized by rich vocal harmonies and catchy songwriting.

In 1977, Ace released their third and final album, No Strings, on Anchor Records. Marked by a stronger shift toward funk and pop-rock sounds, the album showed the band's willingness to explore new directions. However, it failed to chart significantly and did not replicate the earlier success of their hit "How Long". Following the album's commercial disappointment, Ace disbanded in July 1977. Paul Carrack would go on to enjoy great success as a member of Squeeze, Mike + The Mechanics, and as a solo artist.
