Ronnie Barron, né Ronald Raymond Barrosse le 9 octobre 1943 à La Nouvelle-Orléans, Louisiane, fut un musicien et chanteur à la voix soul remarquable, doublé d’un maître du clavier. Très actif dans les années 1970, il collabore avec de nombreux artistes prestigieux comme Paul Butterfield, Canned Heat, Ry Cooder, Tom Waits, Eric Burdon & The Animals, ou encore Sonny and Cher.

En 1971, il sort Reverend Ether, son premier album solo, sous le label Polydor. Cet album met en avant les racines musicales profondes de Barron : le blues, le rock, le rhythm & blues, et des touches cajun, dans une ambiance moite et urbaine propre à la Nouvelle-Orléans. Le personnage excentrique du "Reverend Ether", qu'il incarne sur scène, devient emblématique de son style unique, entre prédication et performance musicale.

Ronnie Barron est également apparu au cinéma, notamment dans le film Nico (1988) où il joue un barman du CIA. Il s’est éteint le 20 mars 1997 à Los Angeles, laissant derrière lui une œuvre discrète mais influente.

Ronnie Barron, born Ronald Raymond Barrosse on October 9, 1943 in New Orleans, Louisiana, was a gifted keyboardist and soulful vocalist. He became a notable session and touring musician throughout the 1970s, performing and recording with artists like Paul Butterfield, Canned Heat, Ry Cooder, Tom Waits, Eric Burdon & The Animals, and Sonny and Cher.

In 1971, Barron released his debut solo album Reverend Ether on Polydor Records. Deeply infused with his New Orleans heritage, the album blends blues, rock, soul, and Cajun influences, introducing his charismatic alter ego "Reverend Ether"—a theatrical preacher persona through whom Barron expressed his musical and lyrical flair.

Beyond music, Barron made appearances in film, most notably as the CIA bartender in Above the Law (1988). He passed away on March 20, 1997, in Los Angeles, leaving a cult legacy.
