Cottonwood était un groupe de rock américain formé au début des années 1970 en Californie, dans la mouvance post-psychédélique, à la suite de la dissolution du groupe Love. La formation comprend Gary Rowles (guitare, chant), ancien membre de Love, Doug Phillips (chant), Rick Allen (basse), David Vaccaro (claviers) et David Weyer (batterie).

En 1971, le groupe publie son unique album, Camaraderie, sous le label ABC Records. Cet opus, souvent classé parmi les trésors oubliés du rock psychédélique américain, propose un mélange subtil de rock rural, de folk et d'éléments progressifs. L'écriture y est sensible, marquée par les harmonies vocales et une instrumentation organique et nuancée.

Malheureusement, le destin du groupe est rapidement interrompu. Peu après la sortie de l'album, Doug Phillips décède tragiquement, mettant fin à l'aventure Cottonwood. L'album reste cependant un témoignage marquant de cette période de transition musicale au début des années 70.

Cottonwood was an American rock band formed in early 1970s California, emerging in the wake of the breakup of the band Love. The lineup included Gary Rowles (guitar, vocals), a former member of Love, along with Doug Phillips(vocals), Rick Allen (bass), David Vaccaro (keyboards), and David Weyer (drums).

In 1971, they released their one and only album, Camaraderie, on ABC Records. The album features a blend of psychedelic rock, folk, and rustic Americana, reflective of the musical landscape of the time. Rich in vocal harmonies and warm instrumentation, it gained a small cult following for its heartfelt, introspective tone.

Tragically, the band disbanded shortly after the album's release following the death of lead vocalist Doug Phillips. Though short-lived, Cottonwood's Camaraderie remains a compelling and underrated gem of early '70s American rock.
