Glass Prism, originaire de Pennsylvanie, s’est fait remarquer avec un premier album en 1969 adaptant des poèmes d’Edgar Allan Poe en rock psychédélique. Leur second opus, On Joy and Sorrow (1970), prolonge cette veine littéraire mais avec des compositions originales plus introspectives et mélodiques. Le groupe y mêle harmonies vocales travaillées, orgue omniprésent, et ambiances tantôt mélancoliques, tantôt dramatiques, évoquant les tourments de l’âme. Moins éclatant que leur premier essai, mais plus personnel, ce disque est devenu une perle rare pour les amateurs de psych rock à la fois sombre et raffiné.

Hailing from Scranton, Pennsylvania, Glass Prism gained underground attention with their 1969 debut based on Edgar Allan Poe’s poetry. Their second effort, On Joy and Sorrow (1970), trades Poe's texts for more personal, melancholic songwriting. The result is a somber and theatrical psych rock album featuring rich vocal harmonies, gothic organ flourishes, and lyrical themes of loss, beauty, and existential longing. Though less known, this LP further solidifies the band’s reputation as one of the more literate and original American psychedelic acts.
