Trio originaire de Floride, The 31st of February est surtout connu pour avoir été le terreau d’une future légende du rock sudiste : Butch Trucks, futur batteur des Allman Brothers Band. À ses côtés, le guitariste Scott Boyer et le bassiste David Brown façonnent en 1968 un unique album éponyme mêlant folk rock psychédélique, harmonies vocales et instrumentation audacieuse. L’album, sorti sur Vanguard Records, reste confidentiel à sa sortie, mais s’est vu réhabilité comme un jalon intéressant de la scène psyché américaine de la côte Est. On y décèle déjà les prémices du son Southern Rock.

The 31st of February was a Florida-based trio composed of drummer Butch Trucks (later of the Allman Brothers Band), guitarist Scott Boyer, and bassist David Brown. Their sole 1968 self-titled album, released on Vanguard Records, blends folk, psychedelic rock, and intricate vocal harmonies. Though overlooked at the time, it has since gained cult status among collectors and fans of early Southern-flavored psychedelia. The album hints at the stylistic roots that would later blossom in the Allman Brothers’ music.
