Né dans l’État de Washington, Bill LaBounty grandit en écoutant du jazz, du rhythm & blues et de la soul. Après des études musicales à l’Université du Wisconsin, il s’installe en Californie à la fin des années 60, où il commence à écrire et enregistrer. Avant de se lancer dans une carrière solo, il forme avec sa femme Becky un duo folk-pop, LaBounty, qui sort un album éponyme en 1972. Cet album, bien que relativement discret à sa sortie, connaît une reconnaissance tardive. Promised Love (1975), son premier album solo, est une œuvre délicate et sophistiquée, caractérisée par des arrangements soignés et une voix veloutée.

Born in Washington state, Bill LaBounty grew up listening to jazz, rhythm & blues, and soul. After studying music at the University of Wisconsin, he moved to California in the late '60s, where he began writing and recording. Before starting his solo career, he formed a folk-pop duo with his wife Becky, LaBounty, releasing a self-titled album in 1972. Though the album was relatively unnoticed at the time, it has since gained a cult following. Promised Love (1975), his first solo album, is a refined and sophisticated work marked by well-crafted arrangements and a velvety voice.
