Formé à Londres en 1968, Cressida (initialement sous le nom de Charge) devient l'un des groupes les plus raffinés du rock progressif britannique. Leur style mélodique et pastoral s’inscrit dans la lignée de la scène prog des années 1970, avec une forte présence de claviers, des harmonies vocales expressives et une approche orchestrale. Leur album Asylum(1971) est leur chef-d'œuvre, un album symphonique et poétique, qui combine rock progressif, influences classiques et une certaine mélancolie. Le groupe se sépare juste après sa sortie, faute de soutien commercial, mais ses deux albums sont aujourd'hui considérés comme des classiques du genre. Le groupe était signé par Vertigo Records, célèbre pour son label de rock progressif.

Formed in London in 1968 under the name Charge, Cressida became one of the most refined acts in British progressive rock. Their melodic, pastoral style blended keyboards, expressive harmonies, and orchestral touches, defining their unique sound. Their second album, Asylum (1971), is widely regarded as their masterpiece — a symphonic and poetic work that merges progressive rock with classical influences and a bittersweet tone. Despite receiving critical praise, the band split shortly after its release due to lack of commercial support, but their two albums are now recognized as minor classics of UK prog rock, especially appreciated by fans of Vertigo Swirl and lyrical progressive rock.
