Après trois années de silence et une première dissolution, Steppenwolf revient en 1974 avec Slow Flux, un album de reformation marqué par un son plus orienté vers le hard rock FM des années 70. Le succès modéré du single Straight Shootin' Woman offre une accroche efficace à un ensemble qui mêle morceaux dynamiques (Justice Don’t Be Slow, Gang War Blues) et titres plus posés (Children of the Night, Fishin’ in the Dark).

After a three-year hiatus and a temporary disbanding, Steppenwolf returned in 1974 with Slow Flux, an album that reflects the band's transition toward a more polished, radio-friendly hard rock sound. With tighter arrangements and a cleaner production, the album features the minor hit Straight Shootin' Woman alongside heavier cuts like Justice Don’t Be Slowand Gang War Blues. While less politically charged than their earlier work, Slow Flux marks a confident return and shows that the band still had energy to burn.
