Sorti en 1972, Feedback marque une rupture majeure dans l’histoire de Spirit. Après le départ de Randy California, Jay Ferguson et Mark Andes, le batteur Ed Cassidy poursuit l’aventure avec un nouveau line-up mené par John & Al Staehely. Le résultat s’éloigne du psychédélisme expérimental pour épouser un rock plus sudiste, bluesy et direct, aux accents country.

L’album divise : certains y voient une perte d’identité, d’autres une renaissance audacieuse. Ce disque inclassable dégage pourtant une belle énergie et reste une curiosité intrigante dans la discographie du groupe, souvent redécouverte avec le temps.

Released in 1972, Feedback represents a sharp departure for Spirit. With key members gone—including Randy California and Jay Ferguson—drummer Ed Cassidy carried the torch with newcomers John and Al Staehely, steering the band into blues-rock and country-tinged territory.

While fans of the classic lineup were divided, Feedback offers solid songwriting, gritty guitars, and a new sonic identity. It stands as a unique chapter in the band’s evolution—less psychedelic, but surprisingly compelling in its own right.
