Avec America’s Choice, Hot Tuna abandonne définitivement les racines folk-blues de ses débuts pour se muer en véritable power trio à l’énergie brute. Enregistré dans une formule resserrée autour de Jorma Kaukonen (guitare, chant), Jack Casady (basse) et Bob Steeler (batterie), l’album marque le début d’une trilogie électrique incisive (poursuivie par Yellow Fever et Hoppkorv).

Plus heavy, saturé, et rugueux, le son de America’s Choice évoque Cream ou Hendrix, mais conserve une identité propre, nourrie par l’inventivité harmonique de Kaukonen et la basse sinueuse de Casady. De longs jams comme « Funky #7 » ou « Hit Single #1 » côtoient des morceaux plus concis mais percutants. Un virage radical, assumé et électrisant.

Louder, heavier, and more distorted than previous records, America’s Choice trades subtlety for raw energy, while maintaining the group’s signature musicality. Tracks like the extended jam “Funky #7” and the dynamic “Hit Single #1” showcase their chemistry and intensity. It’s a high-voltage declaration of independence from their acoustic past.
