Released in November 1975, The Last Record Album is Little Feat’s fifth studio release and marks a shift in their sound. While the band’s funky Southern groove remains intact, the album leans into jazzier, more atmospheric textures—largely influenced by keyboardist Bill Payne’s growing role in the group. Although Lowell George is still present, his contributions are more restrained compared to earlier works.

Subtler and more introspective than its predecessors, the album features complex arrangements and refined melodies, such as the haunting ballad “Long Distance Love,” the jazz fusion instrumental “Day at the Dog Races,” and the vibrant “All That You Dream.” A transitional album, it hints at the band’s future while still grounded in its unique rhythmic identity.
