Sorti le 15 octobre 1973, Wake of the Flood est le sixième album studio du Grateful Dead et la première sortie sur leur propre label, Grateful Dead Records, après la fin de leur contrat avec Warner Bros. Premier opus enregistré sans Ron “Pigpen” McKernan — récemment décédé — il marque l’arrivée des claviéristes Keith et Donna Jean Godchaux, dont l’influence jazz et gospel ouvre un nouveau chemin musical.
