Derrière The Asylum Choir se cachent deux figures de studio en pleine ascension à la fin des années 60 : Leon Russell, claviériste de génie, et Marc Benno, guitariste texan. Ensemble, ils signent avec Look Inside the Asylum Choir un album hybride et visionnaire, entre pop psychédélique, soul blanche et expérimentation studio. The Asylum Choir was the brainchild of keyboard wizard Leon Russell and Texas guitarist Marc Benno, both prolific session musicians at the time. Released in 1968 on Smash Records, Look Inside the Asylum Choir is a wildly imaginative studio project blending psychedelic pop, soul, satire, and baroque production. The album features lush harmonies, whimsical arrangements, and sharp social commentary, drawing comparisons to The Beatles, Harry Nilsson, and Frank Zappa. Though initially overlooked, it has since earned cult recognition as an adventurous piece of late-'60s pop experimentation.
