Formé à Los Angeles au début des années 1960, The Chambers Brothers sont un groupe pionnier du mélange entre soul, gospel et rock psychédélique. Leur son puissant et leur énergie explosive ont marqué la scène musicale américaine de la fin des années 60. L’album The Time Has Come (1967) témoigne de leur capacité à fusionner des grooves funk-soul avec des improvisations rock et psychédéliques, préfigurant le son psychédélique-soul qui deviendra leur marque de fabrique. Ce disque inclut des titres emblématiques qui montrent leur maîtrise du groove et leur engagement social, capturant à la fois la ferveur des clubs afro-américains et l’esprit contestataire de l’époque.

Mixing different elements of black music (soul, blues and gospel) while assimilating certain concepts specific to psychedelic rock, the Chambers Brothers will remain in history as the group with a perfect record. Composed by Lester Chambers, Joe Chambers, Willie Chambers, George Chambers and the only white Brian Keenan, the group formed in 1965 and record three albums that year before this one that will bring them some fame in the professional circuit, but insufficient to see their careers soar ... Alternating syrupy soul tracks that would not have denied Al Green ( 'People Get Ready' by Curtis Mayfield, 'Romeo & Juliet') and well-chosen covers ( 'In The Midnight Hour "by Wilson Pickett), the group also knows how to speak their impeccable groove on pieces that will be described as soul rock. 'All Strung Out Over You' and especially 'I Can not Stand It' are of this caliber. But it was this album so much about him at the time that's what "Time Has Come Today" epic eleven minutes more chanted than sung, typical psychedelic rock impulses of the time. Carried by the drumming of Brian Keenan, fuzz guitars and moults echoes, this piece turns to jam after 2'30 ... Before returning to his starting accent 2'30 to the end. Six minutes so delirious psychedelic, good in the air time, hovering and scary wish! This title despite its length will be five weeks in the eleventh place of the missing billboard so little the top ten ... As far as this can not overshadow the soul nuggets that are 'So Tired', 'Uptown' and 'What The World Needs Now Is Love', on which the group shows its class.

Mélant différents éléments de musique noire (soul, blues et gospel) tout en assimilant certains concepts propres au rock psychédélique, les Chambers Brothers resteront dans l'histoire comme le groupe d'un disque parfait. Composé de Lester Chambers, Joe Chambers, Willie Chambers, George Chambers et du seul blanc Brian Keenan, le groupe se forme en 1965 et enregistrera trois albums la même année avant celui-ci qui leur apportera une certaine notoriété dans le circuit professionnel, toutefois insuffisante pour voir leur carrière s'envoler...
Alternant pistes soul sirupeuses que n'auraient pas renié Al Green ('People Get Ready' de Curtis Mayfield ; 'Romeo & Juliet') et reprises bien senties ('In The Midnight Hour' de Wilson Pickett), le groupe sait également faire parler leur groove impeccable sur des morceaux que l'on qualifiera de soul rock. 'All Strung Out Over You' et surtout 'I Can't Stand It' sont de cette trempe.
Mais ci cet album a tant fait parlé de lui à l'époque c'est pour ce "Time Has Come Today" épique de onze minutes, plus scandé que chanté, typique des élans psychédéliques du rock de l'époque. Porté par le jeu de batterie de Brian Keenan, des guitares fuzz et moults échos, ce morceau vire à la jam au bout de 2'30... Avant de retrouver son accent de départ à 2'30 de la fin. Six minutes donc de délire psychédélique, bien dans l'air du temps, planant et angoissant à souhait ! Ce titre malgré sa longueur restera cinq semaines à la onzième place du billboard manquant donc de peu le top ten...
Pour autant ce titre ne saurait faire oublier les pépites soul que sont 'So Tired', 'Uptown' ou 'What The World Needs Now Is Love' et sur lesquels le groupe montre toute sa classe.
