Figure 8 est le cinquième album studio d’Elliott Smith, chanteur-compositeur américain au style intime et tourmenté, sorti en 2000. Enregistré à Los Angeles et Portland, ce disque marque une évolution vers des arrangements plus riches et baroques, sans renier la sensibilité folk mélancolique propre à Smith. Il mêle ballades poignantes, pop orchestrale et touches psychédéliques. C’est le dernier album complet sorti de son vivant, avant sa mort tragique en 2003. L’univers introspectif, les harmonies complexes et les textes empreints de douleur font de Figure 8 une œuvre à la fois sombre et lumineuse, unanimement saluée.

Figure 8 is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Elliott Smith, released in 2000. It showcases his most ambitious production, blending his trademark introspective songwriting with lush arrangements, intricate melodies, and expanded instrumentation. Recorded partly at the famed Abbey Road Studios, the album is filled with haunting lyrics, multitracked vocals, and Beatles-esque influences. It remains one of his most beloved works—and his last before his untimely death in 2003.
