Après le succès underground du Music Machine mené par Sean Bonniwell, notamment grâce au titre rageur Talk Talk, le groupe subit des tensions internes et change de label. Sean Bonniwell reprend alors les rênes sous le nom de The Bonniwell Music Machine pour un second album paru en 1968 chez Warner Bros. Plus ambitieux, plus introspectif, cet opus reste fidèle au garage rock de leurs débuts, tout en explorant des terres plus psychédéliques, parfois même proches du baroque pop. L’album regorge de compositions originales aux ambiances changeantes, où la voix grave et magnétique de Bonniwell conduit une œuvre à la fois brute et raffinée, parfois absurde, toujours intense. Un disque culte, trop souvent oublié.

Following the raw garage explosion of Talk Talk, Sean Bonniwell reconvened his band under the name The Bonniwell Music Machine, releasing this eponymous album in 1968. The lineup changed, but Bonniwell’s vision remained strong — darker, more introspective, and more sonically adventurous. Blending garage rock, psychedelia, and touches of baroque pop, the album marked a creative leap forward, showcasing Bonniwell’s flair for cryptic lyrics and tense, hypnotic melodies. Though it didn’t achieve commercial success, the album has since gained cult status as a bold statement from one of garage rock’s most uncompromising voices.
