Formé à Austin, Texas, en 1967, Shiva’s Headband est l’un des pionniers du rock psychédélique texan. Le groupe, mené par le violoniste et chanteur Spencer Perskin, a été le premier groupe d’Austin à signer avec une major, Capitol Records.Leur premier album, Take Me to the Mountains, sorti en 1970, fusionne rock psychédélique, country, blues et folk, illustrant la diversité musicale de la scène texane de l'époque. Le groupe a également joué un rôle clé dans la création de l'Armadillo World Headquarters, une salle de concert emblématique d'Austin, en finançant son ouverture avec leur premier chèque de redevances.

Formed in Austin, Texas, in 1967, Shiva’s Headband was among the pioneers of Texas psychedelic rock. Led by violinist and vocalist Spencer Perskin, the band became the first Austin group to sign with a major label, Capitol Records. Their debut album, Take Me to the Mountains, released in 1970, blends psychedelic rock, country, blues, and folk, showcasing the musical diversity of the Texas scene at the time. The band also played a pivotal role in establishing the Armadillo World Headquarters, an iconic Austin music venue, by funding its opening with their first royalty check.
