Bo Grumpus est un groupe américain de rock psychédélique et folk-rock formé en 1967 à Boston par Eddie Mottau et Joe Hutchinson, anciens membres du duo folk "Two Guys from Boston". Rejoints par le bassiste Jim Colegrove et le batteur N.D. Smart II, ils ont d'abord joué sous le nom de "The Bait Shop" avant d'adopter le nom Bo Grumpus, suggéré par Gail Collins, épouse du producteur Felix Pappalardi. Leur unique album, Before the War, sorti en 1968 sur le label Atco Records, est produit par Pappalardi, connu pour son travail avec Cream et The Youngbloods. L'album mêle des éléments de folk, de rock psychédélique et de pop baroque, avec des arrangements sophistiqués et des harmonies vocales riches.Malgré sa qualité artistique, l'album n'a pas rencontré de succès commercial. Après le départ de Smart, remplacé par Ronnie Blake, le groupe a changé de nom pour Jolliver Arkansaw et a sorti un second album, Home, en 1969, avant de se dissoudre.

Bo Grumpus was an American psychedelic and folk-rock band formed in 1967 in Boston by Eddie Mottau and Joe Hutchinson, formerly of the folk duo "Two Guys from Boston". Joined by bassist Jim Colegrove and drummer N.D. Smart II, they initially performed as "The Bait Shop" before adopting the name Bo Grumpus, suggested by Gail Collins, wife of producer Felix Pappalardi. Their sole album, Before the War, released in 1968 on Atco Records, was produced by Pappalardi, known for his work with Cream and The Youngbloods. The album blends elements of folk, psychedelic rock, and baroque pop, featuring sophisticated arrangements and rich vocal harmonies. Despite its artistic merit, the album did not achieve commercial success. After Smart's departure, replaced by Ronnie Blake, the band changed its name to Jolliver Arkansaw and released a second album, Home, in 1969 before disbanding.
