Fraction est un groupe californien obscur de la scène underground du début des années 1970. Leur unique album, Moon Blood, enregistré en 1971 à Los Angeles, est devenu une pièce mythique du rock psychédélique chrétien. Porté par la voix habitée de Jim Beach, à la croisée de Jim Morrison et d’un prêcheur inspiré, et par une guitare fuzz omniprésente, l’album offre un mélange saisissant de rock heavy, de spiritualité incandescente et de tension dramatique. Pressé à seulement 200 exemplaires à l’origine, il a été redécouvert dans les années 1990 et souvent qualifié de « Saint Graal » du psyché US. Publié en novembre 1969, Monster est le quatrième album studio de Steppenwolf, et le plus engagé politiquement. Dans le climat tendu de la fin des années 60, le groupe y exprime son inquiétude face à l’Amérique en guerre (Vietnam) et aux tensions sociales, à travers un rock incisif et contestataire. La pièce maîtresse, Monster/Suicide/America, longue fresque en trois parties, en est l’illustration parfaite. L’album mêle riffs musclés, orgue psyché et textes mordants, avec des titres comme Draft Resister ou Power Play.

Moins immédiat mais plus audacieux que ses prédécesseurs, Monster reflète l’évolution artistique et politique du groupe.

Freedom is a group formed in 1967 with two former members of Procol Harum, the guitarist Ray Royer and drummer Bobby Harrison. The other musicians are Bobby Harrison, Roger Saunders and Walter Monaghan. Through The Years is their fourth album, very oriented hard rock blues. Folk and pop music are not separated, so off acoustic guitars, they use very catchy vocal harmonies in all their songs.

Freedom est un groupe formé en 1967 avec deux anciens membres de Procol Harum, le guitariste Ray Royer et le batteur Bobby Harrison. Les autres musiciens sont Bobby Harrison, Roger Saunders and Walter Monaghan. Through The Years est leur quatrième album, très orienté hard blues rock. Le folk et la musique pop ne sont pas écartés, ainsi outre les guitares acoustiques, ils utilisent des harmonies vocales très accrocheuses dans toutes leurs chansons.

The Open Mind est un groupe londonien actif durant la seconde moitié des années 60, dont l’unique album éponyme sorti en 1969 sur le label Philips est devenu un véritable graal pour les amateurs de rock psychédélique britannique. Avec un son résolument heavy pour l’époque, le groupe combine guitares fuzz, lignes de basse massives, orgues hypnotiques et des textes imprégnés de science-fiction et de conscience altérée. Malgré une diffusion confidentielle à l’époque, The Open Mind est aujourd’hui considéré comme un chef-d'œuvre underground du psychédélisme anglais.

1969, c’est l’année d’Abbey Road, du premier album de Led Zep, et The Open Mind semblent être restés dans une mouvance post mod et psyché, donc un peu à contre courant de l’époque. Et puis, par certains côtés, The Open Mind emprunte des voies assez proches de Cream, qui est alors au top. Alors sans doute l’oubli dans lequel est plongé The Open Mind est du une fois de plus à une erreur de production et de commercialisation.

With fuzz-driven guitars, heavy rhythms, swirling organ, and mystical, space-themed lyrics, the band crafted a bold sound that prefigured aspects of hard rock and acid rock. Though the group faded quickly from the scene, The Open Mind remains a highly sought-after treasure among collectors and psychedelic enthusiasts.

1969 was the year of Abbey Road, the first album of Led Zeppelin, and The Open Mind seem to have remained in a post mod movement and psyche, so a little against the current of the times. And in some ways, The Open Mind borrows quite close lanes Cream, which is then at the top. So probably oblivion engulfing The Open Mind is the one more time to production and marketing mistake.

Possessed - Exploration (1971)

Possessed consisted of Mick Reeves, Vernon Pereira and Phil Britlle. This is the story of a band whose tragic story could never be predicted. Possessed is born of the thriving scene underground West Midlands Rock & Blues in the mid to late 60's it was a scene in which Vernon Pereira, was a key figure. The group was formed in late 1969, when Vernon teamed (after a period playing next to Robert Plant in The Band Of Joy) with Mick Reeves, who played in Sugarstack (among other groups) with Al Atkins . The group was finally about to sign a deal with a record company, when tragedy struck. Returning home after a concert in 1976, the van crashed into a group of tanker parked, taking the lives of three members of the group.

Possessed était composé de Mick Reeves, Vernon Pereira et Phil Britlle.
C’est l’histoire d’une bande dont la tragique histoire n’aurait jamais pu être prédite. Possessed est né de la florissante scène underground West Midlands Rock & Blues du milieu à la fin des années 60. Ce fut une scène dans laquelle Vernon Pereira, avait été un personnage clé. Le groupe était formé à la fin de 1969, lorsque Vernon fait équipe (après une période à jouer à côté de Robert Plant dans The Band Of Joy) avec Mick Reeves, qui avait joué dans Sugarstack  (parmi d’autres groupes) avec Al Atkins. Le groupe était enfin sur le point de signer un accord avec une maison de disque, quand la tragédie a frappé. De retour à leur domicile après un concert en 1976, le van du groupe percuta un camion-citerne en stationnement, prenant la vie de trois membres du groupe.

Originaire de Californie, Stack est un obscur groupe psychédélique qui n’a laissé qu’un seul album, Above All, autoproduit et tiré à très peu d'exemplaires à l’époque. Ce disque est aujourd’hui devenu culte parmi les collectionneurs de heavy-psych. On y trouve un mélange intense de blues rock lourd, de fuzz sauvage et d’accents acid-rock très typiques de la scène underground de la côte Ouest en cette fin des années 60. La guitare rugit, l’orgue plane, et le chant dégage une énergie brute. Un témoignage fascinant du son garage-psyché californien, sans concessions.
