The cover sets the decor: it is under the sign of the California myth that this album was recorded. And so it was received. Hotel California is indeed one of the biggest sales of the record industry. One can prefer the previous album One Of These Nights. Nevertheless, Hotel California holds all the treasures that make a timeless work: catchy melodies, careful arrangements, a careful balance between acoustic and electric songs (! Thank you Joe Walsh) and, to top it all, vocal harmonies Eagles make - but we already knew - the worthy heirs of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. The title song, of course, belongs to the international musical heritage, as 'New Kid In Town'.
La pochette plante le déco : c'est sous le signe du mythe californien que cet album a été enregistré. Et c'est ainsi qu'il a été reçu. Hotel California constitue en effet l'une des plus grosses ventes de l'industrie du disque. On peut préférer l'album précédent One Of These Nights. Il n'empêche, Hotel California recèle tous les trésors qui rendent une oeuvre intemporelle : des mélodies accrocheuses, des arrangements soignés, un judicieux équilibre entre morceaux acoustiques et électriques (merci Joe Walsh!) et, pour couronner le tout, des harmonies vocales qui font des Eagles - mais on le savait déjà - les dignes héritiers de Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. La chanson titre, bien sûr, appartient au patrimoine musical international, tout comme "New Kid In Town".
