Formé en 1975 à Maidenhead, Berkshire, Liar est un groupe britannique de hard rock. Le groupe a été formé par Dave Taylor, ancien membre d'Edison Lighthouse. En 1976, ils attirent l'attention de Chris Demetriou, producteur et A&R pour Decca Records, qui les amène aux studios de Decca à West Hampstead. Après plusieurs changements de personnel, la formation pour le premier album, Straight from the Hip, comprend David Burton (chant et guitare), Dave Taylor (basse et chant), Paul Travis (guitare et chant) et Clive Brooks (batterie).

Formed in 1975 in Maidenhead, Berkshire, Liar is a British hard rock band. The band was formed by Dave Taylor, formerly of Edison Lighthouse. In 1976, they caught the attention of Chris Demetriou, a producer and A&R for Decca Records, who took them to Decca's West Hampstead studios. After several personnel changes, the lineup for the first album, Straight from the Hip, comprised David Burton (vocals and guitar), Dave Taylor (bass and vocals), Paul Travis (guitar and vocals), and Clive Brooks (drums).

The album was recorded at Decca Studios and released in 1977. It was well-received in the UK and Europe, and the band toured with Slade in the UK, followed by tours in Europe, including the Netherlands, Germany, and Hungary, where they performed in front of 35,000 people.
