Peter Kaukonen est un guitariste, multi-instrumentiste et compositeur américain né le 23 septembre 1945 à Topeka, Kansas. Jeune frère de Jorma Kaukonen de Jefferson Airplane et Hot Tuna, il a grandi dans une famille diplomatique, vivant en Asie, en Europe et aux États-Unis, ce qui a nourri son éclectisme musical. Autodidacte, il apprend le blues, le folk et le fingerpicking avant de s’installer à Stanford en 1963, où il rejoint la scène folk de la baie de San Francisco, croisant les futurs membres de Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead et Quicksilver Messenger Service.

Dans les années 1970, il fonde le groupe Black Kangaroo, dont l’album éponyme, sorti en 1972 sur le label Grunt, mêle hard rock psychédélique et influences blues. Il participe également aux albums Blows Against the Empire et Sunfighter de Jefferson Starship, et collabore avec Johnny Winter, Link Wray et Ruthann Friedman.

Peter Kaukonen is an American guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter born on September 23, 1945, in Topeka, Kansas. The younger brother of Jorma Kaukonen from Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna, he grew up in a diplomatic family, living in Asia, Europe, and the United States, which influenced his eclectic musical tastes. Self-taught, he learned blues, folk, and fingerpicking guitar before moving to California in 1963 to attend Stanford University, where he joined the Bay Area folk scene, meeting future members of Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, and Quicksilver Messenger Service.The 

In the 1970s, he formed the band Black Kangaroo, whose self-titled album, released in 1972 on the Grunt label, blends hard psychedelic rock with blues influences. He also contributed to Jefferson Starship's albums Blows Against the Empireand Sunfighter, and collaborated with Johnny Winter, Link Wray, and Ruthann Friedman.

After a hiatus due to health issues, he returned in 2004 with the albums Going Home and Beyond Help!, and in 2018 with Crazy Quilt. This album reflects his musical and personal journey, featuring compositions ranging from blues to rock, folk, and jazz.
